FAQ

Everything you need to know, nothing more.

The basics

Do I need an account?

No. Scripture Knock works without sign-up or login. Nothing leaves your device.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Verse knocks, reflections, Lectio Divina, the Rosary, and Memory Verse all work without an internet connection — everything is stored on your device. Opening USCCB.org links requires internet.

Is Scripture Knock only for Catholics?

The app is built with Catholic life in mind — the Daily Mass Readings follow the Catholic lectionary, the Rosary follows the traditional Catholic form, and the rhythm of the app reflects Catholic devotional practice. Christians of other traditions are welcome too, especially for verse knocks, Lectio Divina, and Memory Verse.

Verse knocks

How do verse knocks work?

You choose your moments — morning, afternoon, evening, or night. Verse knocks arrive quietly within those windows, at gently varied times so they feel natural rather than mechanical. You decide how many per day.

Will it notify me at the same time every day?

No — verse knocks vary within your chosen moments so they feel like a quiet arrival, not an alarm. This is intentional.

What translation are the verses from?

Verse knocks use the World English Bible Updated (WEBU), a public domain translation. It's readable, accurate, and free from licensing restrictions.

Can I save verses I receive?

Yes. You can save favorite verse knocks and revisit your history anytime in the Journal tab. Free users can save up to 5 verses with 7 days of history. Companion removes those limits.

Lectio Divina

What is Lectio Divina?

Lectio Divina is an ancient Christian practice of praying with Scripture through four movements — Read, Reflect, Pray, and Rest. In Scripture Knock every verse knock includes a carefully written Lectio Divina experience. Free, unhurried, and available for every verse you receive.

What are the four steps?

Lectio (Read) — read the Word slowly, letting it resonate. Meditatio (Reflect) — reflect on what the Spirit is saying to you. Oratio (Pray) — speak to God from your heart. Contemplatio (Rest) — rest in His presence in guided silence. Each step includes a carefully written reflection specific to that verse.

Is Lectio Divina free?

Yes — completely free. The full four-step experience is available for every verse knock with no paywall. Companion adds a full history of every verse you've prayed with, but the practice itself is always free.

Does Lectio Divina work offline?

Yes. All Lectio Divina content is stored on your device. No internet required.

What is the flame in the journal?

Each time you complete a Lectio Divina — reaching the end of Contemplatio — a flame appears on that verse in your journal. It's a quiet record of the verses you've prayed with, not a score or streak.

Scriptural Rosary

How does the Scriptural Rosary work?

Each mystery opens with its scripture passage, then guides you through the full vocal prayers — Our Father, ten Hail Marys, Glory Be, and the Fatima Prayer — all displayed on screen at your own pace. A long press advances each prayer, like holding a physical bead before moving forward. Today's mysteries are suggested automatically by day of the week.

Which mysteries are prayed on which days?

Monday and Saturday — Joyful Mysteries. Tuesday and Friday — Sorrowful Mysteries. Wednesday and Sunday — Glorious Mysteries. Thursday — Mysteries of Light. This follows the tradition established by Pope John Paul II in Rosarium Virginis Mariae. You can also choose any mystery set at any time.

Is the full Rosary included?

Yes — all 20 mysteries across the four sets. Each mystery includes the scripture passage, the fruit of the mystery, and the complete sequence of vocal prayers. The Hail Holy Queen is prayed at the end of the full Rosary.

What scripture translation is used for the mysteries?

The Rosary mysteries use the World English Bible Updated (WEBU), the same public domain translation used throughout the app. The scripture references follow the official Vatican source at vatican.va.

Is the Rosary free?

Yes — completely free. The full Rosary with all 20 mysteries is available to all users at no cost. It works offline and requires no account.

How do I access the Rosary?

From the Daily Readings screen — after the USCCB button you'll find a quiet link showing today's mystery set. Tap it to begin. You can also choose a different mystery set from that screen.

Daily Mass Readings

What are the Daily Mass Readings?

Daily Readings follow the Catholic lectionary. You see references for Today's First Reading, Psalm, and Gospel. Full text opens on USCCB.org with one tap. References-only keeps it respectful and accurate.

Why only references — not the full text?

The full text of the Catholic lectionary is under copyright. Showing references and linking to USCCB.org is the correct and respectful approach — it keeps the app honest and legally clean.

Does it require internet?

The references themselves are stored in the app and work offline. Opening the full text on USCCB.org requires an internet connection.

Memory Verse

How does Memory Verse work?

You search for and choose a verse to carry. The app shows you the opening words and you write what comes next — then reveal the full verse and compare. When the verse is truly yours, you tap "This verse is mine" and it joins your personal memorized collection.

What are the hint levels?

There are three hint levels: Gentle (more opening words shown), Guided (a moderate amount), and From the Heart (just a few words — the most challenging). You choose the one that fits where you are with the verse.

Is there scoring or streaks?

No. Memory Verse has no score, no timer, and no streaks. You decide when you're ready to move on. The practice is between you and the verse.

How many verses can I practice at once?

Free users practice one verse at a time. Companion users can carry up to 3 active verses simultaneously. Memorized verses are kept in a quiet personal collection — up to 5 for free users, unlimited for Companion.

Companion

What's free vs Companion?

Free includes 1 verse knock per day, 1 daily moment, 5 saved verses, 7-day history, the full Lectio Divina experience, the full Scriptural Rosary, Daily Mass Readings, and Memory Verse with one active verse and up to 5 memorized. Companion adds up to 5 verse knocks, all moments, unlimited saves and history, full Lectio Divina history, up to 3 active memory verses, and an unlimited memorized collection.

Why is Companion optional?

The core experience — including Lectio Divina and the full Rosary — is free and always will be. Companion is optional support that helps cover Apple fees and ongoing development, and adds a little more room for the practice. Nothing essential is locked away.

How much does Companion cost?

$2.99/month or $19.99/year. The yearly plan includes a 7-day free trial. Prices may vary by country.

How do I manage or cancel Companion?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple via In-App Purchase. You can restore purchases in the app and manage or cancel anytime in your Apple ID Settings — at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
